About D'Capo
D’Capo Choir was formed in 2007. Our aim is to raise money for charities and good causes - not only by entertaining the public, but by enjoying ourselves too! We use the universal language of music to support charitable causes and local, national and international charities. Over recent years we have raised over £9,000 for disaster appeals.
Music has a beneficial effect on people and communities - this is why we use our love of singing to make a positive difference.
We are a choir of mixed SATB voices, singing a very wide variety of styles from Latin motets to spirituals, folk songs to musical theatre and The Beatles. We have sung in numerous venues from beautiful churches to cow sheds!
We sing at many different events including weddings, charity events, celebrations, church services, and Christmas festivities.
Musical Director
Claire Dixon ARCM is a well-known and well-regarded conductor who has directed many other choirs. She was with Wymondham Choral Society for many years, first as accompanist, and then conductor. At the Colchester Institute of Music, Claire studied pianoforte under Alan Grenville. At music college, she was also introduced to string, woodwind and vocal study.
Claire has been D'Capo's musical director since its inception in 2007.
Accompanist
Katie Vaughan joined D'Capo as our permanent accompanist in 2017. She is also an accomplished pianist in her own right, and does solo work, percussion, composition and arranging. She has extensive experience working with choirs as accompanist or director.
What do we sing?
We sing a very wide range of music from Latin motets to spirituals, from folk songs to The Beatles and musical theatre.
Our repertoire runs to over 300 pieces, including sacred and secular music.
If you'd like us to sing at your event - family celebration, wedding, commemoration or church service - please contact us. We also sing at various charity events across our area.
We can sing what you choose, or we can produce our own programme for you. Your event can be tailor-made to suit you. If there is something you would specifically like us to sing, please discuss this with our musical director.
We ask for a donation when we sing for you (minimum of £50) which goes towards new music for the choir.
Weddings
We have been asked to sing for over 40 weddings - including entrance music, individual pieces, during signing of the registers, and music to walk out to. We have compiled a wide repertoire of suitable wedding music. Alternatively, you can request your own choice of music which we will try to find for you. Please contact us if you would like more details.
Wedding couples are welcome to come to a choir rehearsal to hear options for their wedding music.
Our charge for weddings is £150. Payment is due on the day of the wedding, to be given in cash to our musical director.
